The awards took place on the 26th April at the Millennium Gloucester Hotel in London and are the first awards held by the ECITB. The event brought together people from across the engineering construction industry to celebrate excellence in training carried out in the UK. According to the ECITB, the rate of training and development, already crucial in this strategically important industry, is set to grow, as the industry grows significantly to meet the demand for new energy infrastructure. The highly skilled workforce will need to increase dramatically over the next 5 – 15 years.

Swansea & West Wales Occupational Safety Group - Small Business Safety Shield presented by Mr Terry Rose (HSE)

specialist Hazardous Area Electrical and Instrumentation Engineering company, based in Swansea, South Wales is celebrating winning the Swansea and West Wales Occupational Safety Group Small Company Safety Shield as well as the Safety Certificate for safety performance for 2011.

The recognition was given by Projen as part of their ‘Safety Incentive Scheme’.
The scheme’s aim is to achieve project completion with zero incidents and zero accidents, as well as ensuring that individuals are mindful of their own welfare and others.

The skills and training charter formed by The Engineering Construction Industry Training Board (ECITB), is an initiative aimed at developing the industry’s workforce, ensuring that they have the right skill set for the future and for the industry’s changing environment. The initiative is focused on improving and supporting training, development and apprenticeships.

As part of the ECITB’s commitment to supporting the future of a fully skilled and competent workforce, they will monitor and evaluate companies involved in apprenticeship training and further development for existing staff.

C&P Engineering Services provides Electrical and Instrumentation Installation, Commissioning and Maintenance, Hazardous Area E&I Services, Hazardous Area Inspections, Calibration & Repair and Personnel Hire.

The project involved the design, procurement, installation and commissioning of a new low voltage power distribution system within the test facility centre including, sub-mains cabling, power distribution, cable containment, cabling, small power and lighting, relocation and installation of existing test facility equipment, inspection, testing and certification of the new installation to NICEIC standards.

First Minister Carwyn Jones officially opened the new CAPSE test facility on the 5th October. CAPSE, which is based within the Faculty of Advanced Technology within the University of Glamorgan is nationally recognised as the centre for independent research, development, test and certification and has a reputation for cutting edge research and knowledge transfer activities within the advanced automotive and power systems engineering sectors.

The scheme recognises very high standards of health and safety practise amongst UK contractors and is the fastest growing health and safety acceditation scheme in the UK. It is now used by many large organisations as a way of obtaining competent contractors.

In order to achieve SAFEcontractor health & safety accreditation, C&P underwent a vetting process, which closely examined the company’s health and safety policies and procedures.
