In June of this year, our Operations Manager (Mechanical) Kevin Chamberlain celebrated his first year with C&P Engineering Services, and we took the opportunity to catch up with Kevin, to reflect on his career journey, and what he’s enjoyed most since joining the team.
Having joined C&P Engineering Services in June 2025, Kevin brought more than 25 years of engineering and project delivery experience gained at The Royal Mint. His journey started as a multiskilled apprentice, progressing into maintenance and project engineering, but soon moved into asset integrity and a senior leadership position.
This position saw Kevin managing several major installation projects, including the £11 million Precious Metals Recovery Plant which involved the refurbishment, installation and commissioning of this high-profile project. When reflecting on his career to date, Kevin said, “I’ve worked my way up from an apprentice, which allowed me to gain a strong mix of hands-on engineering experience and strategic project delivery. It’s helped me understand projects from every perspective and every stage of its delivery.”
Although he started out as an apprentice, he now holds a BSc in Engineering, as well as HNC and HND qualifications, an APM Project Management Qualification, and is an Incorporated Engineer with the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET). He is currently working towards both an MSc in Engineering Management and Chartered Engineer status.
When asked what attracted Kevin to take on a different challenge after 25 years at the Royal Mint, Kevin stated “C&P stood out because of its reputation within hazardous-area engineering and the opportunity to join a growing business where I could make an impact from day one.”
Leading the mechanical side of the business, overseeing hazardous-area mechanical inspections, installations and engineering projects, he supports the businesses engineering teams. His role involves overseeing all aspects of compliance with ATEX and DSEAR requirements, whilst maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality, and providing technical leadership across projects from design through to commissioning. “Coming from a heavily regulated environment, I’m used to managing risk, leading complex projects and working to strict compliance standards. That experience has transferred directly into my role at C&P.”
Although Kevin is relatively new to C&P, he has already helped strengthen C&P’s mechanical offering, by supporting the growth of mechanical inspections and project delivery whilst helping to maintain the high standards of quality, safety and compliance that our clients expect.
We asked Kevin what his twelve-month highlights have been.
“Development and Culture. I see development as something that’s ongoing. In hazardous-area engineering, it’s essential to stay current with standards, best practice and practical application. I have enjoyed helping establish and deliver C&P’s first Water Industry Mechanical Forum, alongside supporting projects for major organisations including Wessex Water, Yorkshire Water, Thames Water, BOC, BAE Systems and A-Gas. Yet professional development is still a key focus for me. I have completed my Ex11 training to further strengthen my expertise in hazardous-area inspection and compliance, and am continuing my MSc studies, whilst working towards Chartered Engineer registration. In addition, I have had the privilege of representing the business by presenting at Hazardex in the Regions events, and delivering webinars to pass on our knowledge to make industry and standards better. When it comes to work, its the variety of work which means no two projects are the same, and there’s always a new challenge. The team is the businesses real strength too. Everyone works together, supports each other and genuinely takes pride in what they do.”
